Ways to survive a blizzard

#1: be somewhere else.

With spectacular timing, as winter storm Jonas brought blizzards to the East Coast last Friday, we flew south for a weekend in Florida and missed the excitement of two feet of snow falling in less than 24 hours.

Whilst friends and acquaintances were digging themselves out, we were busy sunning ourselves in the Orlando area, visiting the manatee viewing centre at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend power station,

enjoying the scenery, and a carillon recital, in the beautiful Olmsted gardens at Bok Tower

and spotting a single, very tiny, alligator at the side of Kissimme’s Lake Tohopekaliga.

I should also mention the excellent meal we ate at the YachtSea Grille – their gluten free menu was extensive and tasty, and the regular food went down well too.

Of course we couldn’t expect to escape the blizzard-inflicted transport chaos altogether, and our flight home on Monday was cancelled. Very luckily we got standby seats on a later plane and arrived home to piles of snow everywhere, but thankfully our lovely landlord had dug a path to our front door for us!
